Queen Shanakdakheto was a ruler of the ancient African kingdom of Kush (located in present-day Sudan) during the second century BC. She reigned as Queen of Kush from approximately 170 BC to 150 BC and was the first known queen to rule the kingdom independently. Shanakdakheto was believed to be a strong and capable leader, who maintained good diplomatic relations with her neighbors. Her name means "The Strong Female Leader of the Kingdom" in the Nubian language. She is also known for building a pyramid tomb for herself in Meroe, the capital of the Kingdom of Kush. Today, she is considered an important female figure in African history and a symbol of female empowerment.
